It is said that Rajasthan is a ready canvass, an art director’s true delight. No doubt as Rajasthan has served as ideal location for several renowned films as well as ad-shoots. The list is very long but here four names have been especially mentioned. Rajasthan is very beautifully portrayed in all these films.
English language movies:
Octopussy: Roger Moore’s famous James Bond-series flick in 1983, was extensively shot in Udaipur, the city of lakes. With sets such as Shiv Niwas Palace, Lake Palace and colorful bazaars (watch out for popular rickshaw-chase scene), it set a mile-stone in Udaipur’s romantic image world-over.
The Far Pavilions: Based on M.M. Kaye’s best-selling epic novel of 1978, this cross-cultural romantic drama featured Samode Palace extensively. Samode Palace has since enchanted discerning travelers and finds a mention in “1,000 places to see before you die”.
Bollywood movies:
Mera Saaya: This classic romantic suspense thriller of 1960’s has captured Udaipur’s beautiful palaces in their original glories. Much before these palaces were converted into tourist attractions.
Paheli: Based on a Rajasthani story written by a highly respected Rajasthani author by name Vijaydan Detha, Paheli puts Rajasthan at its colorful best. The film was extensively shot in beautiful havelies in Jaipur and around.
